Enable GodMode in Windows 8.1

I stumbled upon an interesting “GodMode” you can enable in Windows 8.1; I don’t have Windows 8.0 but assume it will work just the same. It creates a new folder on your desktop that provides access to ALL of the settings for Windows. It’s pretty handy and thought I would share the steps for how to enable.

  1. Right-click the desktop and create a New Folder
  2. When the New Folder is created on the desktop it will be ready to be named. Type the following in exactly: GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}
  3. The New Folder will then change to an icon that looks like the Control Panel but the name of it will be GodMode.
  4. Double-click the GodMode icon and you will see all of the settings that you can control in a centralized place. It doesn’t add any new capabilities but just provides everything in a central location versus having to search or hunt around.

Hope others find this useful.

  • Cool, is the folder name different than the one used for Windows 8 ?

    • The GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C} should work for Windows 8. I did not test this on Windows 8 so if you find different please let me know. I’ll create a Hyper-V Windows 8 VM next week and give it a test just to make sure myself.

        does work in Win 8, but leave the full name in place, with that GUID.
        and you also can change the text “GodMode” to anything else, it still works.
